Its latest serie “GALAXIES”
From 1985 onwards, still living in Plestin-les-Grèves, VITALIS made an artistic turn by launching his “GALAXIES” series. Using sometimes gouache, sometimes oil paint, he represents the cosmos in bright colours, in movement, all filled with spirals or parabolas of stars. This experience is probably due, at the age of 87, to a childhood memory that impressed him: the passage of Haley’s comet in 1910, which he saw in the Philippines at the age of 12. His inclination for astrology is no doubt not insignificant in the choice of this theme and the way he interprets it.
In 1987, when he had been back in the Philippines for a year, VITALIS presented his series “GALAXIES” in an art gallery in Manila. The presentation of the paintings below follows the order of the catalogue that was published for the occasion. And now, let’s visit the cosmos...
